Coffee Shops Inside Other Shops

I love exploring new coffee shops. For me, it goes beyond the experience of just trying their coffee (which I very much enjoy!) to understanding the community it serves, the vibe, and the mission of the coffee shops. Lately I have been enamored by coffee shops that fill more than one mission. Let me tell you about a few of my favorites, which all happen to accept CUPS.

1. Inside a Bicycle Shop – Maglia Rosa (Carroll Gardens)

Tucked away in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, Maglia Rosa combines fine Italian coffee with fine Italian bicycles. Dedicated to providing its customers with high quality products, you can peruse their bicycles and build your own frame while crafting the perfect espresso drinks. The cafe at Maglia Rosa serves as an opportunity for the cycling community to come relax, take a break, and connect with like-minded folks.

2. Inside a Barber Shop – Blind Barber  (Williamsburg)

Blind Barber was created to be well beyond a typical barber shop but rather a place where the community could gather and get to know each other. That means along with your (men’s) haircut, you can enjoy cocktails, delicious pizzas and other food, and, of course, coffee. In fact, your haircut even comes with a complementary beverage! With blue bottle beans, this is not a haircut to miss.

3. Inside a Bookstore – HousingWorks Cafe  (SoHo)

Ahhhhh what a beautiful day to be a bookstore.

As someone active in the social enterprise community, Housing Works holds a place near and dear to my heart. This nonprofit’s cozy Soho location includes both a bookstore and a coffee shop. It is a place to unwind, connect, and peruse the aisles of completely donated books. As you enjoy your selections, you can feel good about where your money is going to: Housing Works utilizes the funds from their shops and cafe as to fund their mission to “end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts.” Now that’s a cup of coffee I can stand behind.

4. Inside a Clothing Store – Cafe Integral  (SoHo)

This lovely cafe is tucked away inside a clothing boutique. Grab an espresso or delicious iced tea and browse the selection of trendy American Two Shots clothes. Design is of the utmost important to both shops, and that emphasis on design trickles down through both the espresso machine and the carefully curated clothing selections.

5. Inside a Bike Shop – Jane Motorcycles  (Williamsburg)

While I am not in the market for a new motorcycle, I can certainly appreciate the rockstar style motorcycles and accessories at this Williamsburg output. I enjoy grabbing a coffee and checking out the different options— one can dream of a motorcycle getaway, right? Not to mention they always have a witty sign out front.

What will you enjoy your coffee alongside?
