Summer is HERE and in full swing! If you’re on a budget in New York City, you can still kick back and relax without emptying your wallet. Grab a friend and take advantage of free or discounted events this season. Some lines are worth waiting for.
This year, SummerStage takes on its 30th anniversary with even more concerts during May through September. Performances range from music by indie artist Ingrid Michaelson to KanKouran West African Dance Company. If you’re already thinking about having a picnic at Central Park, the main stage is located in Central Park. Venues scatter across the 5 boroughs, so here’s the chance to venture into a part of town you’re not familiar with.
If you plan on staying indoors to re-watch a favorite flick, don’t! Come on, we just got out of hibernation! Grab a blanket, pack a snack, and enjoy a movie in a classic NYC destination. NYC Parks hosts free movie screening all summer long in places like Bryant Park, Pier 1, and Rockaway Beach. For $15, consider catching a film on a Manhattan rooftop at YOTEL New York and experience a skyline sunset. A few favorite movie screenings for this season are How to Train Your Dragon 2, Annie, and Pride and Prejudice.
